Badb project moves into its second year

As spring 2026 is over, the Badb project is successfully moving into its second year, with an increasing focus on integrating its different components. Recently, we met near Helsinki for a joint integration session and field tests to ensure we remain on track in developing our GNSS-free navigation system.

The data we collected and the ideas we exchanged during these field tests and face-to-face meetings provide a solid foundation for the next phase of the project, where we further improve interoperability between the different components. Whether it is satellite imagery, data from UAVs or information collected by UGVs, everything comes together in end-to-end interoperability tests that help us develop an advanced GNSS-free navigation system.

There is still a long way to go, but we are making steady progress. Every integration session shows the value of working together in person. Nothing replaces engineers solving real problems on real systems, and the consortium has successfully progressed from design to implementation and integration.

We are proud that the Badb consortium completed all major milestones planned for the first year of the project. We received valuable feedback from the Finnish and Estonian Defence Forces and worked closely with the EDA throughout the year. The first year was full of challenging engineering work, but it was equally about building collaboration across the partner organisations and strengthening relationships between the teams. We have built a strong partnership between Solita, KrattWorks, Rigr AI, GIM Robotics and KappaZeta, and we are ready for the challenges of the second year.
