Why Navigation Matters for ISR Platforms

Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms collect information through reconnaissance and surveillance missions. The value of that information depends on knowing where it was collected.
As a consortium partner in the Badb project, KrattWorks contributes its expertise in autonomous aerial systems, focusing on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
One of KrattWorks' ISR platforms is Ghost Dragon, an unmanned multirotor UAV designed for reconnaissance and surveillance missions. It supports decision-making by collecting and transmitting information from the operational environment. Reliable navigation is a fundamental capability for autonomous operations.
Ghost Dragon is equipped with thermal and daylight cameras, as well as a jamming-resistant radio. It is designed to provide increased resilience against jamming and spoofing. The platform is capable of streaming live video directly to the Ground Control Station, even in challenging electronic warfare (EW) conditions. Alternatively, when GNSS is available, Ghost Dragon can operate in radio silence mode, storing reconnaissance data on an encrypted SD card for retrieval after landing.
During a mission, Ghost Dragon can be redirected to another area, assigned a new task, returned to base, or handed over to another operator using a different Ground Control Station.
Through the Badb project, KrattWorks is contributing to the development of GNSS-independent navigation for unmanned aerial and ground vehicles together with the other consortium partners.
